Currently with artificial lighting, new ways of work \u2013 that predominantly occurs indoors &#8211; came to interrupt this tuning in human life, and the human being now spend just 10% of the day in outdoor environment, with the subsequent partial or total deprivation of natural light exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Most modern diseases related to stress and psychological disorders, as well as the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) associated with the winter months, are now explained as related to the disruption of the normal functioning of the circadian cycle as the human being was abruptly stricken in recent 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>Recent studies in Photobiology and the Neurosciences unveiled the role of photosensitive ganglion cells of the retina ipRGC (Intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells) that have the mediating role of exposure to artificial light. Since these cells extend to the hypothalamus and limbic region of the brain, it is responsible for regulating the biological clock and perform an important role in terms of cognition and mood.<\/p>\n<p>The proven influence of illuminance and colour on human behaviour brings a new dimension to lighting design of inside and outside buildings, regardless of their intended
