Several projects are pointed out like the <strong>first Portuguese smart city<\/strong>, \u00c9vora, in 2011, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arq.trigger.pt\/en\/project\/led-street-lighting-cascais-boardwalk\/\"><u>Cascais Boardwalk<\/u><\/a><\/strong> and more recently the Marginal also in Cascais.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, <strong>Smart Cities development is a \u201cpriority\u201d for the company<\/strong>, states <strong>Miguel Allen Lima<\/strong>, and this bet was reinforced in 2018 with the <strong>launch of Bright Science<\/strong>, a company \u201cwhose mission is to r<strong>esearch, develop and implement new technologies in smart cities<\/strong>, which can benefit municipalities and citizens, namely through devices, communication systems, security and cloud applications \u201d, says the article.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Tomar\u00a0Smart Human City: An Innovative Project<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>As a <strong>practical example of a smart city under development<\/strong> and its many benefits, the article points out <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arq.trigger.pt\/en\/arquiled-provides-tomar-municipality-with-smart-luminaires-connected-via-lora-wan\/\">the ongoing project in Tomar county<\/a><\/strong>, where Arquiled is about to install <strong>14,000 connected LED luminaires with LoRa<\/strong> (the Long-Range Low-Power Long-term wireless technology), that <strong>\u201cenable to manage, pear to pear, all street lighting fixtures as well to integrate, manage and monitor other services&#8221; through the Watson IoT platform\u201d<\/strong> says Miguel Allen Lima, adding that it is\u201c open the way to new IoT solutions \u201dsuch as smart meters and traffic lights, for example.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the LED Smart Street Lighting system, which will ensure<strong> \u201cfinancial savings, a reduction in CO2 emissions and a reduction in light pollution\u201d<\/strong>, four other <strong>pilot projects<\/strong> will be activated, namely: <strong>monitoring the water quality of the Nab\u00e3o River and the flood levels<\/strong> &#8211; allowing \u201cto generate early warnings that can avoid much damage and even save lives\u201d, thus explaining the title of the article &#8211; <strong>as well
